Job Overview

As a Product Development Engineer I, you will lead and/or participate in customer related or technological platform projects, from the idea to the implementation phase, within a specific market. You will have an active participation in the development of products / concepts / technologies, mainly in your local base site, but also in other sites of the group whereas your competencies are required. PDEs interact with customers and raw material suppliers within their market area of specialization. Work may include research, applications development, material enhancements and/or cost-out initiatives.

Additionally, you will strongly interact and support the Plant Technical teams in the scope of new products development projects as well as act as a business partner to the Commercial team and plants.

This role will span over the term listed below and will be critical in delivering a significant growth for Amcor Flexibles Latin America (AFLA)

Job Dimensions

• Travel is estimated between 20-60%, primarily to locations listed below;

• Work is to be managed through Amcor’s Stage Gate Process, project management templates and tools;

• This role reports to R&D Manager.

Principal Accountabilities

Key Responsibilities

External Interaction:

• Collaborate to understand customer needs and rapidly drive the design, development and implementation of products and/or processes aligned to customer/market needs and business strategy.

• Align projects with customers and stakeholders, exchanging standard/basic information through face-to-face meetings, conferences and e-mails.

• Accompany the specialists in visits to customers and monitor the tests and circulation of new products or CO and final validation, supporting the new creations and the evaluation of the quality and data collection for specialists.

Internal Project Work:

• Support and monitor the progress of new packaging and experimental orders projects within the innovation pipeline, collaborating with areas such as Engineering, Operations and Quality to resolve technical challenges, supporting sustained solution ownership.

• Participate, create and lead cross functional teams within AFLA involved with the Project.

• Contribute to the definition of critical to quality specifications; author development technical specifications, waivers, etc.

• Support Stage Gate programs while learning core risk management principles and processes, developing mitigation plans within the cross functional teams.

• Conduct a systematic analysis of the use of raw materials in aging, thus reducing costs with storage and losses of the company for unused products.

• Prepare presentations for customers, understanding their needs, specifics and expectations.

• Play an integral role in the global governance of the bid collaborating with and like functional teams in Asia and EMEA.

Learn:

• Learn and apply foundational understandings of material/polymer properties and equipment capability in order to deliver best solutions.

• Demonstrate basic technical skills and aptitude for problem solving.

• Understanding of SFDC/TaskRay+IMS striving towards a standardized PM language, process and best practice around the globe.

• Become familiar with different problem solving tools in leveraging internal and organizational curiosity to apply new ideas.

• Gain knowledge of the intellectual property system and information management, in order to protect Amcor’s intellectual property.

Relationship management

• Work with Global Project Team to ensure AFLA is positioned well to secure the business for this project.

• Work in partnership with the global project team to ensure the that Global and AFLA strategies are aligned and are complementary, and agree key deliverables/targets within the Project.

• Build key relationships across the AFLA functional teams to ensure effective problem management/resolution channels.

• Communicate Amcor’s key learning’s from process, system and sales resolution to reduce customer dissatisfaction and churn.

Team Management

• Participate, in cross functional teams within AFLA involved with the Project, developing team capabilities and ensuring collaboration across all the other functional teams, BU teams and local contacts.

• Engineering degree is required.

• Knowledge in resins and materials

• Knowledge in financial management in projects

• Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Office and an aptitude to apply learnings to new software opportunities.
